Trent Mack is in his second season season at Northern Colorado and will oversee the cross country program as well as the mid-distance and distance runners for the indoor and outdoor seasons.
“I'm excited for the opportunity,” Mack said. “The men's and women's cross country and track and field programs have really made tremendous progress over the last few years here and I look forward to being a part of that and I hope I can help continue that momentum. The coaching staff and athletes have been extremely welcoming and I sense a lot of energy and excitement within the program. That combination always makes for a positive work environment where great things can be accomplished.”
Mack is coming off great success at the NCAA Division II level where he was named the NCAA Assistant Track Coach of the Year during the 2014 season at Ashland University. While at Ashland, he coached the two-time NCAA Division II Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, guided 41 athletes to All-American Honors, and coached six individual National Champions, and one relay National Championship team with the Distance Medley Relay in 2014. Mack’s former athlete, Drew Windle who now competes for the Brooks Beast in Seattle, WA) set and currently holds the NCAA Division II Indoor record in the 800-meters at 1:46.52 and was ranked #2 in the United States among all collegiate athletes that season. That followed an outstanding 2013 outdoor season where the men’s mid-distance at Ashland led the performance list posting 3 of the top 6 fastest performances on the national list all breaking the 1:50 barrier.
Under Mack’s guidance, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams returned to the National Championship scene with the men’s team finish in the Top 10 in 2012 and 2014.
Before Ashland, Mack was the head cross country and track and field coach at Dakota State University at the NAIA level, and again had nothing but success.
In his years with the Trojans he broke 23 school records, produced 43 All-Conference athletes, 15 Conference Champions, and 12 All-Americans. He was also named the Cross Country Conference Coach of the Year in 2010 and the 2009 Outdoor Track and Field Conference Coach of the Year.
