SAN DIEGO – Northern Colorado women's soccer concluded its California road trip Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to San Diego State at the SDSU Sports Deck.
San Diego State jumped out to an early advantage and put the Bears on the back foot during the opening half. The Aztecs capitalized on their opportunities, including set-piece chances, to build a lead Northern Colorado was unable to overcome.
UNC responded with an improved effort in the second half, looking to create opportunities and apply more pressure going forward. Despite the Bears' response after the break, San Diego State kept UNC off the scoresheet and secured the 5-0 victory.
"Yeah, tough day," head coach Tim Barrera said. "San Diego State's a good team, and they made it hard for us. Obviously, we got in a hole early. We played better in the second half, but we got done in by a couple set pieces."
Barrera emphasized that the Bears will use the result as an opportunity to improve as they move closer to Big Sky Conference play.
"A lot to take away from it. A lot for us to learn and get better as we prepare for the Big Sky Conference," Barrera said.
The loss moves Northern Colorado to 3-4-2 on the season and ends a two-match winning streak after victories over Air Force and UC Riverside.

Northern Colorado remains on the road and travels to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. MT. The matchup will be UNC's final contest before opening Big Sky Conference play against Idaho on Oct. 8 at Jackson Stadium.
