Changes Coming For Fans Entering UNC Athletic Events

New security measures being added to Nottingham Field and bank of Colorado Arena.
GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado Athletic Department will introduce walk-through metal detectors at Nottingham Field and Bank of Colorado Arena.
The new additions to the entrance gates will make their debut in the volleyball exhibition against Wyoming on August 21 at the Bank of Colorado Arena and in the football home opener a week later against Weber State on August 28.
"Fan safety is our top concern," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "Walk-through metal detectors will be a huge addition to our events as professional and major college venues have had great success with this safety enhancement. Recommended by the UNC Police Department, this modern technology enables us to add this extra layer of safety with next to no additional burden to our fans."
Fans will not have to empty their clear bags or pockets, and will not have to place cell phones, keys, money, or other belongings to the side because the state-of-the-art metal detectors are designed to be completely pass through. The metal detector technology from CEIA OPENGATE provides automatic screening for fast and easy gate entrance flow. Only if a problem is detected, and the alarm sounds, will fans have to proceed to an additional area and be checked separately with a security wand.
With a sellout crowd expected at the first night game at Nottingham Field, fans are encouraged to enter the stadium early to get used to the new system and to expedite entry to the game. UNC's clear bag policy is still in effect.
