GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado baseball came up short in the first game of the series against North Dakota State on Friday afternoon, falling 4-3 at Jackson Field.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead and held control for much of the game, but a late push from the Bison proved to be the difference in the series opener.

Northern Colorado wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning behind an RBI single from Logan Pruski that scored Brett Barber and Jaden Stone. The Bears added another run in the fourth, using Ethan Mooser's triple and a sacrifice fly from Zeke Minic to extend the lead to 3-0.

On the mound, Reece Wagner delivered another strong outing for the Bears. The right-hander worked seven innings, allowing just two runs while striking out 11, keeping the Bison lineup in check and limiting damage.

NDSU began to chip away in the fifth inning and pulled within one on a solo home run in the sixth. The game shifted in the eighth when the Bison tied it with another long ball before taking the lead in the ninth on a go-ahead solo shot.

Offensively, Barber, Stone and Pruski each recorded multiple hits to lead UNC's effort at the plate.

ON DECK: Northern Colorado aims to respond and even the series in tomorrow's match up at Jackson Field, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. MDT. The game will also feature Military Appreciation Day at Jackson.
