OMAHA, Neb. – Northern Colorado outlasted Omaha in a back-and-forth battle on Sunday afternoon, using a clutch extra-inning push to secure an 8-7 victory at Tal Anderson Field and claim the weekend series.
Northern Colorado struck first in the opening frame, as Logan Pruski delivered an RBI single to plate Jake Bullard and give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. Omaha quickly answered in the bottom half, tying the game at 1-1, setting the tone for a tightly contested afternoon.
After trading scoreless innings, UNC regained control in the fourth when Sam Pease came through with an RBI single, followed by a two-run fifth inning highlighted by Pruski's RBI double and a run-scoring groundout from Mason Griffin to extend the lead to 4-2. The Bears continued to apply pressure in the sixth, capitalizing on patience at the plate. Jaden Stone and Bullard each drew bases-loaded walks to push the advantage to 6-2. UNC added another insurance run in the seventh behind Pease's third hit of the day, an RBI single that made it 7-3 and put the Bears in a strong position late.
Omaha refused to go quietly. A dramatic four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 7-7, forcing extra innings. UNC quickly responded in the 10th, after Stone led off with a single and advanced into scoring position. Griffin delivered the go-ahead RBI single to score Stone and give the Bears an 8-7 edge.
On the mound, the Bears pieced together the final outs to secure the win. Brady Hudson earned the victory after recording a key out in the ninth, while Logan Borboa shut the door in the 10th to pick up the save.
At the plate, Pease led the way with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Pruski added two hits and two RBIs, while Stone reached base three times and scored twice.
Northern Colorado totaled 13 hits and worked six walks, consistently putting pressure on Omaha's pitching staff throughout the game. With the win, the Bears secure the series and carry momentum into their next stretch of conference play.
