Bears Sit 10th After Day One at CSCAA National Invitational Championship

OCALA, Fla. – Northern Colorado opened competition at the 2026 CSCAA National Invitational Championship on Thursday with a strong showing in the pool, highlighted by a podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Bears closed the first day of competition in 10th place with 100 team points.
Northern Colorado's best finish of the day came in the 200 freestyle relay, where the Bears placed third overall with a time of 1:31.89. The quartet delivered one of UNC's fastest relay swims of the season to earn a podium finish against a competitive national field.
Individually, Martina Yuki-Trionfetti earned a spot in the evening finals of the 50 freestyle, finishing seventh with a time of 23.15 to score valuable points for the Bears.
In the butterfly sprint, Ellyson Lombardi competed in the 50 butterfly, finishing 13th overall with a time of 24.64 after improving on her seed time in prelims.
Distance specialist Kyra Rabess represented Northern Colorado in the 500 freestyle, placing 15th with a time of 4:51.84.
The Bears also competed in the 400 medley relay, finishing ninth overall in 3:41.75, just outside the top-eight scoring positions.
Northern Colorado will return to the pool Friday for day two of the championship, featuring events including the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, along with the 800 freestyle relay.
