PREVIEW: Bears Head to Florida for CSCAA National Invitational Championship

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming will compete on the national stage this week as the Bears travel to Ocala, Florida, for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship at the Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training (FAST) facility. The three-day meet runs March 12-14 and features top programs from across the country competing in preliminaries and finals each day.
Northern Colorado enters the championship with a strong group of eight swimmers competing across multiple individual and relay events after an impressive season highlighted by school records, NCAA cuts and multiple conference champions.
Rabess leads the Bears in the distance events, entered in the 500 free, 200 free, 1000 free and 1650 free, while also swimming on relay teams. Bernier is set to compete in the 100 back and 200 back, Konter will race the 200 free, and Simioni is entered in the 200 free and 100 free. Mishler will swim the 50 back, 50 free and 100 free, Tromp is scheduled for the 50 breast, 100 breast and 100 IM, and Trionfetti is entered in the 50 back, 50 free and 100 free.
Lombardi will compete in the 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 fly while also contributing on relay teams, giving Northern Colorado another strong presence in the butterfly events.
The Bears are also entered in four relays: the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 800 free relay and 400 free relay. Northern Colorado's relay entries feature a mix of sprint speed and distance depth that helped power the team throughout the season.
Competition begins Thursday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. ET and finals at 6 p.m. ET. Thursday's schedule includes the 50 back, 500 free, 50 fly, 200 IM, 50 breast and 50 free, along with the 400 medley relay. Friday features the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back, plus the 800 free relay, while Saturday closes the meet with the 100 IM, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly, the distance freestyle events and the 400 free relay.
