GREELEY, Colo. - Brock Wisne's career night powered Northern Colorado to a 78-77 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday night at Bank of Colorado Arena.
The Bears controlled much of the game, leading for more than 33 minutes and carrying a 43-41 advantage into halftime after shooting 53.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes. UNC consistently generated quality looks in the paint and on second-chance opportunities, building momentum behind early finishes from Ring Nyeri and a strong first half from Wisne as the Bears kept their offense rolling.
Wisne took over from there, finishing with a career-high 38 points on 15-of-21 shooting to go with five rebounds. His scoring total ranks as the third-most points in a single game in program history, and the performance also moved him into 10th place on UNC's all-time scoring list with 1,367 career points. He now sits fifth in school history in field goals made with 569.
Northern Colorado pushed its lead to double digits in the second half, using interior efficiency and timely rebounds to stay in front. Ibu Yamazaki added 10 points on a pair of three-pointers, while Quinn Denker finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help steady the Bears late. Nyeri posted eight points and 10 rebounds, and UNC won the paint 50-34.
Northern Arizona made a late push behind Chris Komin's 34 points, trimming the deficit to one in the final minute. The Bears answered with key possessions down the stretch and held on in the final seconds to secure the one-point win.
