Northern Colorado Wrestling Battles No. 23 Jackrabbits in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Northern Colorado wrestling continued Big 12 action on Sunday afternoon, taking on No. 23 South Dakota State in Brookings. The Bears dropped the dual, 31–10, but came away with three individual wins at 133, 149 and 165 pounds.
South Dakota State opened the match with an 11–2 major decision at 125 pounds before UNC responded at 133, as Dominick Serrano turned in a dominant 15–5 major decision over Cale Seaton to even the dual.
The Jackrabbits regained the lead with a major decision at 141, but the Bears kept the pressure on when KJ Evans earned an 8–3 decision at 149 to pull UNC within one point.
SDSU added bonus points with a fall at 157 before Kilian Schultz delivered another key performance for the Bears, securing a 4–1 sudden-victory upset win at 165 over No. 31 Marcus Espinoza-Owens to cut the deficit to 14–10.
South Dakota State then created separation in the final four bouts, posting decision victories at 174 and 184, followed by a technical fall at 197 and a pin at heavyweight to close out the dual.
UP NEXT: Northern Colorado returns home for a two-dual home stand, opening the stretch by hosting No. 24 Wyoming on Friday, February 13, before welcoming Utah Valley on Sunday, February 15.
