GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado opens its 2026-27 season Friday at home, hosting New Mexico State at 4 p.m. MT at the Butler-Hancock Pool. Admission is free for fans.
It marks the first dual of the year for both programs, and the 19th meeting in the last 20 seasons. New Mexico State leads the all-time series 11-7, but the Bears have won seven straight in the matchup.
The Aggies went 10-2 in dual meets last season and finished second at the MPSF Championships.
Northern Colorado also finished 6-3 in duals a season ago in its first year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, where the Bears placed third at the MPSF Championships with 1,171.5 points. Maria Erokhina was named MPSF Swimmer of the Year, and head coach Lisa Ebeling was named MPSF Swimming Coach of the Year, both firsts for the program.
The Bears are coming off a strong fall in open water as well. At the MPSF Open Water Championship in Long Beach on Oct. 17, Northern Colorado won the overall team title, with the relay of Kyra Rabess, Emma On-the-Hill, Ellyson Lombardi and Audrey Varet taking first in 26:00.7.
Rabess finished second in the women's 5K in 1:01:52.8, earning automatic qualification for both the 5K USA Swimming Open Water National Championship and the CSCAA Nationals in December. Earlier in the fall, Lombardi was named MPSF Swimmer of the Week after sweeping the butterfly events at the Front Range Invite.
The meet will be streamed on the Northern Colorado Athletics YouTube channel.
