GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Soccer (1-7-4, 0-1 Big Sky) opened Big Sky Conference play Thursday evening at Jackson Stadium, facing off against the defending 2024 Big Sky Tournament champions, Sacramento State (5-6, 1-0 Big Sky).
The first half featured competitive, back-and-forth play, with the Bears creating chances in the box through set pieces and corner kicks. Despite the pressure, they were unable to capitalize.
Sacramento State also threatened on a few occasions, but solid defensive efforts and key saves by Kaya Lindberg and the Bears' back line kept the match scoreless at the break.
In the second half, both teams maintained a strong defensive presence, with neither side able to break through as time ticked down. However, Sacramento State found the back of the net in the 87th minute, scoring the game's only goal and sealing a 1-0 victory on the road.
"I thought we had good efforts across the field" said Head Coach Tim Barrera "It's a short league, there's only eight games, every game counts so we must have a short memory and bounce back and be ready to train tomorrow and prepare for the other reigning champs, Montana. The team is resilient, and we will be ready to go"
UP NEXT
The Bears will travel to Montana for their conference road opener on Sunday, with kick off scheduled for 12 p.m. MT
