UNC Wrestling Welcomes Charles Jones Jr. as Assistant Coach

Bears add coveted name to coaching staff.
GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Wrestling program is proud to announce the addition of Charles Jones Jr. to its coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Jones Jr brings a wealth of experience to UNC, both on and off the mat. Most recently, he served as the Head Girls Wrestling Coach at Edmond North High School, where he also taught World History. Under his leadership, the program saw significant growth and success, culminating in his recognition as the 2024 High School and Junior High Girls Coach of the Year.
In addition to his work in education and athletics, Jones Jr served as a Nursing Assistant with the Department of Veterans Affairs from 2020 to 2023, where he was entrusted with the care and safety of patients and staff, and developed strong administrative and de-escalation skills in high-pressure environments.
Jones is also a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 2010 to 2022 as a Chemical Specialist. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he held several leadership roles including Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. His military career instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and accountability—traits he continues to carry into his coaching.
A former collegiate wrestler for the University of Oklahoma and Fresno State, Coach Jones is a 3-time Fargo All-American, 2x Oklahoma State Champion, and BIG 12 placer. Since taking the helm in 2022, he has earned both the 2024 Oklahoma High School and Jr. High Girls Coach of the Year honors and served on the USA Coaching Staff for the 2024 Pan American U17 Championships. In addition to coaching at Edmond North and Husky Wrestling Club, he brings extensive experience as a personal trainer, MMA fighter, and community leader, actively serving with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Impact Community Church, and the Big Brothers Association.
Charles earned his bachelor's degree in general studies from the University of Central Oklahoma. He went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Langston University, along with his (L.P.C.)
