GREELEY, Colo. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced this week that six student-athletes from the University of Northern Colorado Track & Field and Cross Country programs were named to the 2024–25 CSC Academic All-District Team. Bears honorees Edgar Garcia, Johnny Fisher, Nathan Plant, Alexa Oatman, Ciara Piffarerio, and Gwen Seelye earned distinction for their combined excellence in competition and academics.
To qualify for Academic All-District honors in track & field/cross country, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore academic standing, possess a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and rank among the top 50 regionally in an individual event during the 2024-25 athletic year.
Garcia turned in a dynamic sprint season, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships with a time of 10.47. He also helped the Bears' 4x100-meter relay team to a second-place finish at the same meet (40.51). Indoors, he posted a personal-best 6.76 in the 60m at the Big Sky Championships and added a 400m PR of 48.90 at the New Mexico Team Open. Garcia ranks among the Big Sky's top sprinters and continues to shine academically in the classroom.
Fisher made major strides as a sophomore in 2024–25, recording personal bests in both the 100m (10.75) and 200m (21.52) during the outdoor season. Indoors, he climbed to fourth in the Big Sky rankings in the 200m after clocking 22.25 at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite. He later lowered his PR to 21.72 at the Big Sky Championships, where he also competed in the 60m. A consistent contributor on UNC's sprint squad, Fisher continues to balance elite athletic development with academic success.
A true dual-season standout, Plant competed in seven outdoor meets and posted new personal bests in the 400m (49.61), 800m (1:52.29), and 1500m (4:00.72). Indoors, he broke through with a 1:53.29 in the 800m at the Arkansas Qualifier and also impressed in the 1000m (2:30.86) and 600m (1:20.99). On the cross country course, he ran at the Big Sky Championships and four regular-season meets, achieving PRs in the 4-mile and 5k. Plant, a Big Sky All-Academic honoree, is emerging as a leader in the distance group.
Oatman delivered a strong sophomore season, capped by a first-place finish in the pole vault at the 2025 AF Twilight meet with a season-best clearance of 3.64m. She competed in five outdoor meets and represented UNC indoors at both the UCCS Invite and Graduate Classic. A 2024–25 Big Sky All-Academic Team selection, Oatman has continued to raise the bar in her event while excelling in her coursework.
Piffarerio showed impressive versatility across events in 2024–25, highlighted by a heptathlon PR of 3817 points at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic. She also set personal bests in the 200m, 110H, and long jump at the Doug Max Invitational. Indoors, she posted career marks in the pentathlon, high jump, shot put, 60m hurdles, and 400m, and wrapped her season with a strong 800m performance (2:34.18) at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. A consistent contributor in combined events, Piffarerio also earned a spot on the Big Sky All-Academic Team.

She also competed indoors in the shot put, reaching 9.00m at the UCCS Invite. A nursing major, Seelye continues to thrive as a student-athlete in one of UNC's most demanding academic programs.
