Strong Start Not Enough For UNC
GREELEY, Colo. – A six-run first inning was not enough for Northern Colorado Saturday, as the Bears dropped a high-scoring contest to St. Thomas, 16–7, in their final game of the season at Jackson Field.
Northern Colorado (18–33, 9-21 Summit) came out with energy, lighting up the scoreboard early with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning. Catcher Craig Kenny launched a three-run homer after Jake King drove in two RBIs. Carter Monda finished the game 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Kenny went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Bears held a 6–0 lead until the fourth, when the Tommies began to chip away and eventually surged ahead with a six-run fifth inning. St. Thomas (29–21, 21-9 Summit) was able to to erase the early deficit and ultimately prevail in the game.
Starter Jake Storey gave UNC 4.1 innings of work from the mound, but was tagged with five earned runs before the bullpen entered. James Tuttle (3–4) took the loss after surrendering three runs in relief.
Brandon Sanchez added a double and scored twice for the Bears, while Anthony Stellato also contributed with an RBI.
