Rascon, Wilson Break into UNC Record Books at Kit Mayer Classic

Bears tally 12 top-10 finishes on final day, highlighted by podium spots in the decathlon and strong sprints performances
GOLDEN, Colo. – Isaac Rascon and Dylan Wilson cracked the Northern Colorado record books as part of a strong showing Saturday at the Kit Mayer Classic, where the Bears wrapped up the meet with 12 top-10 finishes on the final day of competition.
Rascon delivered a standout performance in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 14:41.86 to place fifth overall and move to No. 8 on UNC's all-time list. In the 800 meters, Wilson clocked a 1:52.68 to finish seventh, also earning a spot in program history at No. 9 all-time.
Northern Colorado also grabbed a podium finish in the decathlon, where Jameson Rembert posted 5,921 points to place second, followed closely by teammate Ryan Pollyea in third (5,350).
In the sprints, Floyd Samuels Jr. and Johnny Fisher led the charge with top-10 finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters. Samuels ran 10.73 in the 100 (7th) and 21.61 in the 200 (9th), while Fisher recorded times of 10.87 (13th) and 21.59 (8th). The duo helped power the Bears to a third-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.84.
On the women's side, Kiana Van Haaren sped to a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters with a personal-best 12.07, slotting in at No. 8 all-time in UNC history. Vanessa Ward and Marely Del Campo both placed in the top 10 in the 200 and 400 meters, with Del Campo running 58.68 for seventh in the 400 and Ward clocking 25.19 for seventh in the 200.
Sherika Thomas posted the top individual finish of the day for the women, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.45. She also competed in the 400 hurdles, with Kara Sidwell and Annison Pound joining her in the event.
In the jumps, Digby Marshall placed fifth in the long jump (6.79m), while Rembert and Pollyea's performances in the multi-events rounded out the Bears' most productive day of the weekend.
