Fresh Off Record-Breaking NCAA Performance, Campbell Takes on World’s Best in 60m Hurdles
NANJING, China - Northern Colorado junior Jerome Campbell is set to take on the world's best at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.
Â
Competing in the 60m hurdles, Campbell enters the competition fresh off a historic performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend, where he shattered both the UNC and Big Sky Conference records with an impressive 7.49 seconds, finishing second overall. His time ranks as the 15th fastest in the world this year and is tied for the 60th fastest time ever recorded in the event since 1899, as well as the third fastest time for any Jamaican man.
Â
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Campbell will begin his championship run in the heats at 10:25 a.m. locally in China (8:25 p.m. MDT) on March 21. A top finish would see him advance to the semi-finals at 7:50 p.m. (5:50 a.m. MDT) on March 22, with the finals set for 9:05 p.m. (7:05 a.m. MDT) the same day.
Â
Campbell will face elite competition, including Grant Holloway, the reigning Olympic champion and two-time World Indoor 60m hurdles gold medalist. Holloway has dominated the event in recent years and enters the championships as the world leader, having clocked 7.36 seconds this season.
Â
Also in the field is Cameron Murray, the second-fastest hurdler in 2025, and Jakob Szymanski, the European indoor champion who has surged onto the global stage with a Polish record 7.39 seconds earlier this year.
