Bears Fall at UC Irvine
IRVINE, Calif. – Brock Wisne led Northern Colorado in its first-ever National Invitational Tournament (NIT) appearance in school history.
The junior forward from Thorton, Colo., tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist in the Bears 82-72 loss to No. 1 UC Irvine (29-6) at Bren Events Center Wednesday. He hit 6-of-13 from the field, including 1-of-3 from behind the arc and all three attempts at the charity stripe.
UNC fell for just the second time this season when leading at the half. The Bears held a 41-37 advantage at the intermission after outshooting the Anteaters 50% (15-30) to 44% (14-38).
In the second half, UNC opened its largest gap at nine on a layup by Marcell McCreary. Trailing 51-42, UC Irvine outscored the Bears 40-21 over the final 15:50.
Langston Reynolds registered 15 points, three rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Jaron Rillie concluded his collegiate career with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal in his 146th game.
Marcell McCreary scored 11 points, while Quinn Denker finished with eight.
Isaiah Hawthorne netted six points and 12 rebounds, with two steals and two blocks in his final collegiate game, his 122nd.
UNC's 25 wins rank second most in a single season in the 124-year history of the program. The .714 winning percentage holds the ninth best in school history, the seventh highest in seasons with at least 20 games played and second best in the NCAA Division I era (2005-present).
