Incoming Bears midfielder set to compete in CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Qualifiers as Puerto Rico aims for another championship appearance
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado 2025 recruit Evangelina Arocho, who will join the Bears in the fall, has been called up to the U20 Puerto Rican National Team.
Arocho, a midfielder, will represent Puerto Rico in Group B play at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Qualifiers, facing El Salvador, Honduras, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Matches will take place at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from February 20-25.
Puerto Rico will open against the U.S. Virgin Islands, marking just the second time the two nations have met in U-20 qualifiers. The Boricuas won their previous matchup in 2002. This is Puerto Rico's seventh appearance in CWU20Q, with the program reaching the championship stage three times (2020, 2022, and 2023). Their best finish came in 2022, when they placed fourth.
Arocho previously competed with the U17 Puerto Rico National Team, competing in the 2024 CONCACAF Championship and playing in the 2023 CONCACAF Qualifiers. A standout at the high school level, she has been a varsity starter since her freshman year and earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Born in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Arrocho now resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Both of her parents served in the military, and her father, who was born in Puerto Rico, passed down Puerto Rican citizenship to her.
