BOULDER, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's basketball traveled to Boulder on Tuesday night for a non-conference match up against Big 12 opponent Colorado. Despite a strong effort and high intensity throughout the game, the Bears came up short at the CU Events Center, falling to 8–3 on the season.
Both teams opened the game with energy and defensive pressure. Northern Colorado disrupted Colorado early, applying full-court pressure and forcing turnovers while contesting shots. At the first media timeout, the Bears trailed just 7–5. UNC continued to find quality looks at the rim after the break, with Neenah George leading the offense. The Bears closed the first quarter down 14–11.
George opened the second quarter with a pull-up jumper to keep the momentum going, but Colorado answered with a scoring run to take control. The Buffs extended their lead to 25–15, prompting a Northern Colorado timeout. Colorado continued to capitalize inside, pushing the advantage to 40–19 before Heather Baymon knocked down three free throws late in the half. Colorado led 40–22 at the break, with Baymon pacing the Bears with seven points. As a team, UNC shot 45 percent from the field in the first half.
Colorado opened the third quarter with quick baskets, forcing an early timeout from the Bears. Northern Colorado responded with back-to-back scores and forced turnovers to maintain intensity on both ends of the floor. Despite the effort, Colorado held a 58–38 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Bears opened the fourth quarter with strong execution, jumping out to a 7–2 run in the opening minutes. Colorado responded once again, converting at the rim and from the free-throw line. A late rally by Northern Colorado wasn't enough, as the Buffs secured the win.
