12/20/2025 4:58:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DAVIS, Calif.- Northern Colorado women's basketball (9-3) traveled to Davis, California to take on the UC Davis Aggies (8-4) in their second to last non-conference game of the season. Despite a slow offensive start, the Bears defensive intensity and timely scoring helped the Bears secure the 57-47 win on the road to improve to 9-3 on the season.
The Bears started the game with a slower offensive tempo in the first quarter, but their defense set the tone by applying constant pressure and forcing the Aggies into turnovers. Those miscues turned into aggressive drives to the basket, sending the Bears to the free-throw line. Strong offensive rebounding also created second-chance opportunities and easy finishes at the rim. Julia Riley led the way with eight first-quarter points as the Bears built a 16–8 lead after one period.
To start the second quarter, the Bears converted on two quick possessions to build their lead, but UC Davis's Ryann Benett answered by attacking downhill to cut into the Aggies' deficit. Julia Riley carried the offensive momentum, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and totaling 11 points in the first half.
The Bears carried a 28–20 advantage into the break.
The third quarter featured a fast-paced exchange of three-pointers as both teams traded baskets in a back-and-forth stretch. Midway through the period, the Aggies sparked a rally, cutting the Bears' lead to 35–29 and briefly seizing momentum. The Bears answered with timely scoring and strong defensive play, contesting shots and forcing the Aggies into difficult looks throughout the quarter. The Bears extended their advantage and carried a 46–34 lead into the final 10 minutes.
UNC carried their defensive momentum into the final frame. Neenah George found success at the rim, making tough baskets at all three levels to keep the Bears in control of the game. George finished with a game high 22 points.
UP NEXT: The Bears will prepare for a quick turnaround and head to Texas to take on Sam Houston on Monday, December 22 in what marks the Bears final non-conference match of the 2025-26 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. MT
