LUBBOCK, Texas — Northern Colorado pushed nationally ranked Texas Tech for 40 minutes Tuesday night, turning in one of the most competitive performances against a ranked opponent in the program's Division I era before falling 101-90 inside United Supermarkets Arena.
The Bears were powered by a career-high 29 points from Brock Wisne, who finished 13-of-21 from the field while adding five assists and five rebounds. Wisne scored at all three levels and consistently answered Texas Tech runs, keeping Northern Colorado within striking distance throughout the night.
Zach Bloch delivered a career-best eight assists, orchestrating the Bears' offense while also contributing 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including four triples. Bloch's playmaking fueled Northern Colorado's ball movement, as the Bears totaled 18 assists and shot 60.0 percent in the opening half.
Northern Colorado trailed by just five at halftime, 56-51, after shooting 60 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. The Bears stayed within single digits for much of the second half, repeatedly answering Texas Tech baskets with timely scoring runs.
The final margin marked the second-best point differential against a nationally ranked opponent in Northern Colorado's Division I history. The program's best such showing remains a 10-point loss to No. 16 Illinois in December 2010, underscoring how competitive the Bears were on Tuesday against a Power Four opponent on its home floor.
Northern Colorado finished with three players in double figures, including Vincent Delano (16 points) while outscoring Texas Tech in second chance points, 17-6.
