Bears Beat Hornets on the Road in Five Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Northern Colorado volleyball (12-14, 9-4 Big Sky) battled to a hard-fought road victory over Sacramento State (16-9, 9-4 Big Sky) on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the match with high energy and intensity, taking the first set 25-19. The Hornets answered in a lengthy back-and-forth second set, edging out Northern Colorado 30-28. Sacramento State carried that momentum into the third set, holding off a late Bears rally to go up 2-1 in the match.
Refusing to back down, Northern Colorado jumped out to an early lead in the fourth and maintained control throughout to force a decisive fifth set.
The Bears carried their momentum into the final frame, seizing an early advantage and never looking back to secure the win.
Four Bears finished with double-digit kills, led by senior Brynn Reines with 15. Sophomore Alaya Tessena followed closely with 14, while seniors Bella Van Lannen and Isabel Benett each added 10.
Nerea Alvarez Jorge paced the offense with 45 assists, helping create scoring opportunities and exploit gaps in the Hornets' defense.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home for a three game home stand to round out the regular season. Northern Colorado will host Idaho State on Thursday, November 13. First serve is set for 6 p.m. MST.
