GREELEY, Colo. — Northern Colorado volleyball (13–14, 10–4 Big Sky) returned to Bank of Colorado Arena on Thursday night and secured an important conference win over Idaho State (9–16, 5–8 Big Sky). Energized by the home crowd, the Bears relied on aggressive play at the net and a well-balanced offense to outlast the Bengals in a key Big Sky showdown.
Northern Colorado opened the match with intensity, recording 19 kills in the first set. Brynn Reines and Bella Van Lannen each notched four kills, while Nerea Alvarez Jorge distributed 13 assists to guide the Bears to a 25–21 opening-set victory.
Idaho State came out strong in the second set, grabbing an early lead, but the Bears battled back by grinding out tough points. A momentum-shifting run sparked by Finley Schelhaas propelled Northern Colorado to a 25–19 win and a two-set advantage.
The Bears carried that momentum into the third set, building an early lead before Idaho State responded with a rally of its own, eventually going up by five. Northern Colorado clawed back, tying the set at 17–17, and then found gaps in the Bengals' defense to close out the match with another 25–21 win, completing the sweep.
Reines led all players with 15 kills, hitting an impressive .375 while adding three digs. Alayna Tessena followed closely with 14 kills, a .250 hitting percentage, and seven digs. Alvarez Jorge finished with 38 assists and seven digs.
Defensively, Bella LePore anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs.
