CHICAGO, Ill. – The Northern Colorado women's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Chicago to compete in the WellNow Blue Demon Classic hosted by DePaul University. In Friday's opening match up, the Bears faced the Campbell Camels and came away with a hard-fought 68–62 overtime victory, setting an energetic tone for the weekend.
Northern Colorado opened the game with confidence, establishing early momentum and taking a 12–7 lead after the first quarter. Crisp ball movement and unselfish play generated quality scoring opportunities, while Lele Tanuvasa helped set the offensive pace with four early points.
Campbell responded in the second quarter with a 6–0 run to climb back into the contest. The Bears shot 11–29 (37.9%) from the field in the first half, while the Camels went 9–27 (33.3%). Northern Colorado's defense remained aggressive, forcing nine turnovers and collecting four steals through the first two periods.
The second half opened with both teams trading baskets. Aniah Hall dominated inside, powering the Bears back within one point and keeping the game within reach. Campbell carried a slim 41–40 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Bears struck quickly to regain a three-point advantage, but Campbell answered with a 7–0 run before Northern Colorado steadied itself. Key baskets down the stretch allowed the Bears to tie the game with nine seconds remaining, sending the contest into overtime at Wintrust Arena.
