Bears Defeat Wildcats in Four Sets

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Volleyball (14–14, 11–4 Big Sky) continued its conference slate on Saturday evening, hosting Weber State (15–10, 7–7 Big Sky) in a pivotal Big Sky matchup. The Bears battled their way to a four-set victory, earning a hard-fought win over the Wildcats.
Weber State started fast in the opening set, taking a 7–1 lead and forcing an early Northern Colorado timeout. The break proved effective—the Bears responded with a gritty run, climbing ahead 14–11 before Weber State called a timeout of its own. UNC maintained its momentum and secured the first set, 25–19.
Set two saw Northern Colorado take early control, extending rallies and exploiting gaps in the Wildcats' defense. At the midway point, Isabel Bennett paced the offense with eight kills, while Bella LePore anchored the back row with 11 digs. In a tight finish, the Bears edged out the Wildcats, 26–24, to take a 2–0 match lead.
The third set became a true back-and-forth battle. Both teams traded points with long rallies and timely defensive plays. Despite strong front-row blocks and resilient backline coverage from the Bears, Weber State gained late momentum and captured the set, 25–20.
In the fourth set, Weber State again jumped ahead early, but Northern Colorado steadily chipped away at the deficit. Bella Van Lannen delivered several key kills to keep the Bears within reach. Late in the set, UNC's defense stepped up with crucial blocks, allowing the Bears to take the lead and close out the match in four sets.
Three Bears finished with double-digit kills. Isabel Bennett recorded 13 kills with a .400 hitting percentage, Bella Van Lannen matched her with 13 kills at an impressive .500, and Alayna Tessena added 10 kills.
Defensively, the Bears collected 72 digs, led by Bella LePore with 20. Nerea Alvarez Jorge posted a double-double, tallying 43 assists along with 11 digs.
