Bears Defeat Bobcats in Straight Sets at Home

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Volleyball (10-13, 7-3 Big Sky) notched its first sweep of the 2025 season with a dominant 3-0 victory over Montana State (11-10, 6-4 Big Sky) on Thursday evening at Bank of Colorado Arena.
The Bears set the tone early, bringing high energy to claim the opening set 25-21. The second set proved to be a tight battle, as both teams traded points before Northern Colorado pulled ahead late for a 25-23 win. In the third, Montana State mounted a late rally, but the Bears stayed composed and closed out the sweep with a clutch 26-24 finish.
Offensively, Alayna Tessena led the charge with 11 kills while hitting .209. Bella Van Lannen and Brynn Reines added eight kills apiece to balance the attack. Setter Nerea Alvarez Jorge controlled the offense efficiently, finding holes in the Bobcats' defense to generate key points throughout the match.
Defensively, the Bears were sharp, tallying 39 digs as a team to prevent Montana State's attack and secure the sweep.The Bears also tallied nine blocks in the three set match.
With the win, the Bears split their two-game series against the Bobcats in conference play. Northern Colorado now shifts its focus to another pivotal Big Sky matchup, as the Bears host Montana on Saturday evening at Bank of Colorado Arena.
