Bears Open Front Range Invite with Relay Podium, Lombardi Victory in 200 Fly

DENVER – The Northern Colorado swim team opened competition at the 2025 Front Range Invite on Friday evening, racing against a strong field that included Denver, Air Force, Colorado State, and Wyoming. The Bears secured several top-10 individual finishes and a relay podium to highlight the first day of action.
UNC's best finish of the night came in the 200-yard butterfly, where Ellyson Lombardi took the top spot with a time of 2:04.66. She was joined by Hlaa Diab (2:08.59, 6th) and Agathi Manoli (2:09.48, 8th), giving the Bears three top-10 finishes in the event.
In the 500 freestyle, Emma On-The-Hill touched 10th overall with a time of 5:09.27, while Kyra Rabess was close behind in 12th (5:09.97). Lora Konter added depth with an 18th-place swim (5:15.18).
Rabess also had a strong showing in the 100 freestyle, placing 17th in 53.33. Teammates Vitoria Simioni (21st, 53.39), Alexis Mishler (23rd, 53.54), and Konter (25th, 53.68) followed closely.
In the 200 IM, Avi Tromp led UNC with a 6th-place finish (2:08.77), while Diab (2:11.71) and Manoli (2:12.04) finished in the top 25 of a deep field. Tromp also returned later in the evening to finish 9th in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.63), right behind Rachel Ley, who placed 8th in 2:25.38.
The Bears also made noise in the sprint events, as Simioni placed 6th in the 50 freestyle (24.02), just ahead of Martina Yuki Trionfetti (8th, 24.07) and Mishler (10th, 24.14). Lombardi also cracked the top 25 with a 24.45.
In relay action, Northern Colorado's 200 freestyle relay team of Simioni, Rabess, Mishler, and Trionfetti clocked 1:35.74 for 4th place. The 400 medley relay squad of Trionfetti, Tromp, Lombardi, and Rabess finished 2nd overall in 3:47.64, securing a strong podium finish to open the meet.
On the boards, sophomore Violet Noel led the Bears in the 3-meter diving, finishing 11th with a score of 208.80. Teammates Mireya Ruiz (19th, 187.65), Meredith Clabaugh (24th, 162.55), and Addison Campbell (25th, 162.40) also represented UNC in the event.
Divers will resume competition at 10 a.m. tomorrow, and swimmers will begin at 11 a.m.
