GREELEY, Colo. – Coming off a record-breaking 2024-25 campaign, Northern Colorado women's swimming & diving kicks off its 2025-26 season this weekend at the Front Range Invitational, hosted by the University of Denver. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday at the El Pomar Natatorium, with diving competition taking place at Air Force.
Action begins Friday at 5 p.m., with Saturday sessions set for 11 a.m. in swimming and 10 a.m. in diving.
The Bears are looking to build on a historic season that featured international success, school records, and multiple podium finishes at the final Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships. UNC placed sixth overall with 458.5 points, highlighted by standout performances across the roster.
Northern Colorado returns several key contributors, including national record holders Maria Erokhina (Cyprus) and Kyra Rabess (Cayman Islands), who both competed at the 2024 Short Course World Championships in Budapest. Erokhina broke national records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while Rabess set new standards in the 400 and 800 freestyle.
The Bears also saw program-best marks last year, with 2025 graduate Madison Berg setting a new school record on the 1-meter dive and the 800 free relay team of Rabess, Lora Konter, Martina Yuki Trionfetti, and Lily Mayer smashing the program's previous record en route to a gold-medal finish.
At the WAC Championships, UNC tallied a handful of podium finishes, including silver medals from Erokhina in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay (Trionfetti, Ellyson Lombardi, Konter, and Rabess). Rabess, Trionfetti, Lombardi, and Ellyson Lombardi also secured individual bronze medals to cap off the year.
The Front Range Invite marks the first test for the Bears as they open another promising season on the road.
