Bears Reverse Sweep Vandals on the Road

MOSCOW, Idaho - Northern Colorado volleyball (8-11, 5-2 Big Sky) delivered a statement win on the road Thursday night, rallying from two sets down to complete a reverse sweep over Idaho, 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 26-24, 15-2) inside Memorial Gym.
The Bears erupted offensively down the stretch, finishing with 67 kills and a .273 hitting percentage while holding the Vandals to just two points in the decisive fifth set.
Alayna Tessena led the charge with a career-high 23 kills on a .372 hitting percentage, while Brynn Reines added a career-best 19 kills to power the Bears' comeback. Setter Nerea Alvarez-Jorge guided the offense, recording a career-high 57 assists to go with 16 digs for her double-double performance.
At the net, Isabel Bennett added 10 kills on a .421 clip and six blocks, while Zoe Gibbs contributed nine kills and six blocks of her own. Bella LePore anchored the defense with 18 digs, and the Bears combined for 12 team blocks and seven service aces in the win.
After narrowly dropping the first two sets, Northern Colorado found its rhythm in the third, pulling away behind Reines and Tessena to take the frame, 25-17. The Bears carried that energy into a back-and-forth fourth set, outlasting Idaho, 26-24, to force a decisive fifth.
UNC left no doubt in the finale, jumping out to a 10-1 lead and closing the door with a dominant .800 hitting percentage to seal the comeback victory.
With the win, Northern Colorado improves to 5-2 in Big Sky play and extends its win streak to three.
