Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Four

CHENEY, Wash. – Northern Colorado volleyball (9-11, 6-2 Big Sky) took down Eastern Washington in four sets Friday night (18-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14) inside Reese Court.
After a slow start in the opening frame, the Bears found their rhythm offensively and never looked back, finishing the match with 50 kills on a .277 hitting percentage while limiting the Eagles to just .144 on the night.
Alayna Tessena and Zoe Gibbs led a balanced attack, with Tessena recording 15 and Gibbs recording 13 kills, respectively. Tessena hit an impressive .481, while Gibbs posted a dominant .632 hitting clip with three solo blocks. Brynn Reines added nine kills and a pair of aces, and Bella Van Lannen turned in a near-perfect effort with nine kills on a .750 percentage.
Setter Nerea Alvarez-Jorge guided the offense with 34 assists and six digs, while Bella LePore anchored the back row with seven digs. Defensively, UNC controlled the net with eight total blocks and kept Eastern Washington off balance with strong serving.
After dropping the first set, Northern Colorado responded with a commanding 25-18 win in the second behind a late 7-1 run fueled by Tessena and Reines. The Bears carried that momentum into the third, pulling away 25-16 before closing the door in the fourth, hitting .393 in the final frame to secure the victory.
With the win, Northern Colorado improves to 6-2 in Big Sky play and 9-11 overall, extending its strong midseason surge heading into the final stretch of conference play.
