Bears’ Mortensen, King, and Faris Earn CSC Academic Honors

GREELEY, Colo. – With the 2025 season on the horizon, Northern Colorado Women's Soccer is building momentum, driven by the academic and athletic excellence of Rachel Mortensen, Morgan King, and Melina Faris. Recognized for their hard work in the classroom and their contributions on the field, all three student-athletes were honored as members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.
Rachel Mortensen, a senior midfielder from Phoenix, Arizona, wrapped up her Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science with an impressive 3.91 GPA. Mortensen played in all 19 matches during the 2024 season, tallying 19 shots and finishing second on the team in shots on goal percentage (57.9%).
Morgan King, a fifth-year midfielder from Long Beach, California, is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Athletic Training with a perfect 4.0 GPA and is set to graduate in May. On the field, she played in 19 matches, scored the game-winning goal against Idaho, and achieved a 57.1% shots-on-goal percentage.
Melina Faris, a fifth-year forward from Pueblo, Colorado, is working toward her Master of Biomedical Science with an impeccable 4.0 GPA and is also on track to graduate in May. A steady presence in all 19 matches, Faris was key in facilitating possession and creating opportunities, contributing one assist on the year.
The trio's achievements encapsulate the standard of excellence fostered by head coach Tim Barrera's program. With their contributions, the Bears look to build on their foundation and bring renewed energy into the 2025 campaign.

The 2024 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
