UNC Travels to NAU, Hosts Idaho State

GREELEY, Colo. - The Bears (9-10, 2-6 BSC) hit the road to face Northern Arizona (16-5, 7-1 BSC) in Flagstaff on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. before returning home for a Monday night rematch against Idaho State (7-11, 2-5 BSC). Monday's game will be a Pink Out, with fans encouraged to wear pink to receive a $5 ticket (plus fees) at the gate. The women's basketball team will be selling their pink game-worn jerseys for $150 each.

SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks are currently second in the conference with just one loss to undefeated MSU and are 16-5 overall. NAU defeated Big 12 opponent Arizona in the beginning of the season 92-75.

The Lumberjacks are led by Head Coach Loree Payne. Payne has been leading NAU since 2017. She is the third coach in program history to record 100 victories with the team and is NAU's all-time leader in Big Sky Conference wins. She is second on NAU's all-time career wins list.

Sophie Glancey, the BSC preseason MVP selectee, leads the Lumberjacks, averaging 17.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Glancey is a three-time BSC Player of the Week selection during the 2024-25 season, and a six time selection through her career.

Alongside Glancey is Taylor Feldman and Leia Beattie. Feldman is putting up 16.9 points per game, helping the Lumberjacks to a near-perfect conference record. Beattie was selected to Preseason All-Conference Team and is averaging 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Head Coach Kristen Mattio enters her fourth season at the helm of Bears Women's Basketball. Under Mattio, the Bears are 50-54 since she took over the program in 2020. Mattio surpassed the 200th career victory mark in the overtime upset win against Big 12 opponent BYU on Nov. 23, 2024. Mattio is the first head coach to reach this mark at UNC in the Division I era. Mattio has led the Bears to top-25 rankings in the nation in the field goal percentage, forced turnovers, 3PT% (defense), and steals per game categories for the first time in program history. Mattio is currently seventh in program wins with 52 and is 6 wins away from claiming sixth.

LAST TIME OUT
UNC earned a 66-57 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday at the Bank of Colorado Arena. Junior guard Ella Van Weelden led the Bears with 12 points, sinking four three-pointers on 50% shooting while adding five rebounds. Sophomore forward Tatum West contributed seven points and six rebounds, while junior guard Julia Riley added six points and six rebounds, shooting perfectly from beyond the arc.

Van Weelden's back-to-back threes sparked a dominant second quarter, helping UNC outscore EWU 16-7.
