Third Quarter Derails UNC

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Northern Colorado hung with the fourteen-ranked UIW at Benson Stadium Saturday.
The Bears went to the locker room trailing by a touchdown. Just five plays into the game, UNC appeared to be in a shootout after UIW scored to go up, just 1:50 remaining in the first quarter.
Following a turnover on the next possession, UNC forced the Cardinals to punt the ball back. The Bears cashed in a five-play, 89-yard drive to event the score at 7-7, with 5:40 in the first quarter. Colorado State transfer Vann Schield broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run.
UIW added a second touchdown in the frame and held a 14-7 advantage as the teams went to the break.
A fumble on the kickoff to open the second half by UNC set UIW in plus territory at the 16-yard line. The Cardinals cashed in on Zach Calzasa's second TD of the day. They cashed in another touchdown, with just under half of the second half to seal the deal.
UNC outrushed the Cardinals 214-203.
Vann Schield led the Bears with 81 yards on 11 carries. Peter Costelli completed 16 of his 26 attempts, for 141 yards and two interceptions. Brayden Munroe collected seven receptions for 66 yards.
