UNC Names New Assistant AD for Strategic Communications

GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Athletics Department named Michael High as the new Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, UNC Director of Athletics Darren Dunn announced Thursday.
"Michael is passionate about UNC Athletics and he works extremely hard especially since we named him as interim Director last April," Dunn said. "We couldn't be more pleased to welcome Michael into this enhanced role. "We look forward to his ability to highlight our department, teams and student-athletes and take the communications department to a new level."
Prior to his promotion, High served as the Interim Director for Strategic Communications since April. He is now responsible for all aspects of the Athletics Strategic Communications unit with primary focuses in the following areas: media relations, Internet/multimedia, publications, broadcasting, social media, budget management and staff supervision.

"Thank you to each of the coaching staffs, supervisors, co-workers, and administrations that helped shape me into the professional I am today! Finally, but certainly not least, thank you to my former and current student-athletes for allowing me to share your stories over the last 10 years and I look forward to promoting more in this new role."
High joined the athletics department Aug. 1, 2023, and served as UNC's Assistant Director for Strategic Communications as the primary communications contact for baseball, men's basketball, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming & diving, women's volleyball and men's wrestling over the first eight months in Greeley.
He brings over a decade of experience in athletics communications, covering over 20 sports during his time. Before joining the Bears, High was an assistant director for public relations at SMU in Dallas, where he was the primary contact for women's volleyball, women's basketball and rowing.
High joined the Mustangs after a stint as the Director of Athletics Communications at LeTourneau, an NCAA Division III program in Longview, Texas, with primary responsibilities in media relations, Internet/multimedia, publications, broadcasting, social media, budget management and staff supervision. In addition, he oversaw the LETU Network, marketing, facilities and operations roles.
His other stops include assistant athletics communications director at the University of Texas – San Antonio and assistant sports information director at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.
After retiring from the United States Army in 2013, High obtained his bachelor's degree in sports management from Old Dominion University in 2015. As a student, he began his career as an intern with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and game day staff with Old Dominion Athletics. He also wrote for the ODU student newspaper (Mace & Crown), hosted his radio show for student radio (WODU) and served as sports director, calling over 200 games during his time in Norfolk, Va.
