Â
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball announced the addition of Viktor Lukic-Gavric to the 2024 signing class Wednesday.Â
Â
"We feel very fortunate to get a commitment from Viktor," head coach Steve Smiley said. "Viktor is a proven player at the highest levels of European basketball, proving his ability this past summer with the Swedish National Team, as he was the second-leading scorer in the FIBA U-18 A Division for the Swedish team, playing against the very best competition in Europe."Â
Â
Lukic-Gavric, a 6'2" shooting guard from Stockholm, Sweden, signed a National Letter of Intent, after posting 18.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists at the 2023 FIBA U18 A Division last summer.Â
Â
"Viktor is tough, explosive, can really score, but also will be a great fit as a facilitator in our ball screen offense," Smiley said. "We see Viktor as a big guard that can play both on and off the ball, similar to recent Bear standouts like Matt Johnson, Daylen Kountz, and Dejour Reaves."Â Â
Â
Lukic-Gavric played prep basketball at the Get Better Academy in Prague, Czech Republic.Â
Â
We can't wait to get Viktor on campus to start working with him!"Â Â
Â
What They Are SayingÂ
"I think in today's game it's easy to measure players' wingspan, height, body fat, speed, free throw and 3-point percentages. What's hard to measure is the player's heart and will to win, toughness, and confidence to deliver under pressure. To shorten things up as far as Viktor; he belongs in D1 basketball as far as these measurable things, but he is second to none in the non-measurable categories. He's an instant winner and I am excited for UNC as well as Viktor for next season." – Get Better Academy Head Coach Julian BetkoÂ
