BEAUMONT, Texas – Northern Colorado (7-4, 0-0 BSC) wrapped up its non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 60-43 loss to Lamar University (6-4, 1-0 Southland Conference) at the Montagne Center. Despite a competitive first half, the Bears' offensive struggles in the third quarter proved costly.
TOP PERFORMERS
Tatum West led Northern Colorado with 12 points, going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line, and added four rebounds. Neenah George provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, converting all three of her free throws and hitting a three-pointer. Gabi Fields contributed seven points and a career high eight rebounds in her 27 minutes of playing time.
GAME SUMMARY
Northern Colorado opened strong in the first quarter, using a 9-0 run midway through the period to build early momentum. The Bears' defense held Lamar to 36.4% shooting, and UNC carried an 11-10 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find offensive rhythm. A second-chance layup by Tatum West and solid free-throw shooting helped the Bears maintain a narrow 20-19 edge at halftime.
Lamar seized control in the third quarter, outscoring Northern Colorado 17-5. The Cardinals capitalized on turnovers and offensive rebounds, highlighted by six points from Jacei Denley, to take a double-digit lead into the final frame.
