Cole, Placide Earn AVCA Accolades

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Syd Cole and Gabi Placide collected American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honors with the announcement of the All-Region Awards Tuesday.
"Syd and Gabi are very deserving of this award," head coach Lyndsey Oates said. "They have both put up great numbers and were key to our team's success!"
Cole obtained the second AVCA All-West Region Selection of her career, while Placide secured her first accolade as an honorable mention.
As a graduate student, Cole led the Big Sky Conference with 10.22 assists per set and 1,339 total assists, while her 0.3 aces per set placed her ninth in the league. She placed fourth in the country in total assists, 38th in assists per set and 97th in aces per game. Cole garnered Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player, Setter of the Year, First Team Honors and All-Tournament Team.
Placide received her selection after posting team highs in kills per set with 3.6, points (556.5), points per game (4.25), total attacks (1,114) and total kills (472). Nationally, she ranked 28th in points, 33rd in kills, 95th in total attacks, 99th in points per game and 116th in kills per set. She joined Cole on the All-Big Sky Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team. Last season, Placide grabbed the Big Sky Conference Outstanding Freshman award.
