UNC Drops Two Overtime Classic at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Northern Colorado fell to Colorado 90-88 in double overtime at CU Events Center Friday.
Isaiah Hawthorne led five Bears in double figures with 19 points. Jaron Rillie inked 16 points, while Zach Bloch recorded 14. Langston Reynolds and Marcell McCreary tallied 13 points each.
UNC (1-1) built its largest lead of the first half with an 8-0 run, moving in front 23-17 on a 3-pointer by Rillie. Colorado (2-0) carried a 32-30 into intermission.
Both sides held a six-point advantage in the second half, with the Bears holding a 48-42 advantage on a triple by Bloch at the 11:34 mark.
The Buffaloes moved in front 65-59, on two free throws with 1:16 left in regulation. Hawthorne sliced the deficit in half with an old-fashioned 3-point play, with 26 seconds remaining.
UNC forced a turnover and Rillie missed a triple with 12 ticks on the clock. McCreary scooped up the loose ball, scampered to the corner and nailed a fall-away jumper with:08 showing, tying the score at 67-67.
In the first overtime, the teams matched each other and a pair of free throws by Colorado with 49 seconds sent the teams to a second extra period.
Trailing by two, McCreary's 3-point attempt missed the mark with three seconds remaining.
