GREELEY, Colo. – Isaiah Hawthorne dropped a career-high 27 points in Northern Colorado's 92-50 victory over Northern New Mexico College (2-10) Tuesday at Bank of Colorado Arena Tuesday.
The Bears jumped out early and improved to 6-2 with an early attack, building a 24-14 midway through the cast.
Hawthorne led the Bears with 27 points on 8 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Brock Wisne netted 11 points, converting 5 of 6 field-goal attempts. Langston Reynolds and Luca Colceag tallied 10 points each.
The Bears scored the first eight points, holding the Eagles scoreless for the first 2:30. Hawthorne drained a 3-pointer with 7:50 left in the opening 20 minutes, pushing the advantage out to 30-19. They held a double-digit for the remainder of the contest and went to the break ahead by 16 at 48-22.
UNC shot 64.3% from the floor in the opening half and dipped to 54.2% in the second half. The Big Sky's best shooting team finished at 59.6%, the fourth time they made at least half their attempts in eight games.
In the second half, UNC held the Eagles to just nine made baskets, including 1 of 8 from 3-point range, outscoring Northern New Mexico 48-22. The Bears held the Eagles to season lows in total points and fewest in a half.
UNC built its largest advantage at 89-45 on a layup by Marcell McCreary with 93 seconds remaining. The teams traded triples and the Eagles made two free throws for the final margin.
