Bears Send Seniors Out with a Sweep

GREELEY, Colo. – Annette Baker, Syd Cole, Maddie Davies and Sam Steele accounted for 18 kills on 42 swings, 24 digs, 36 digs, four aces and one block in the final career match Saturday.
Northern Colorado (23-6, 14-2 Big Sky) sent the four seniors out with a sweep of Eastern Washington (12-14, 8-8) at Bank of Colorado Arena Saturday.
In 16 Big Sky Conference matches, the Bears won 11 in three sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, with their triumph over the Eagles.
Baker tallied seven kills, two digs and one assist, while Cole notched 35 assists, four kills, two digs and an ace. Davies recorded seven kills, three digs, two aces and a block. Donning the libero jersey, Steele inked 17 digs and one ace.
UNC outhit the Eagles .429 to .143 in the opening game and grabbed the early advantage.
The Bears won eight of the final 13 points, turning a 17-17 tie into a 2-0 edge at the intermission.
They repeated the same script at the end of game three, with the match tied at 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21. An attack error by Eastern Washington and a kill by Isabel Bennett moved the margin out to two. Gabi Placide responded after an attack error, putting the Bears at set point 24-22. The teams swapped kills with Alana Tessena securing the victory.
