Defense Leads Bears to Win at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Defense and a 16-0 run fueled Northern Colorado to a 79-68 victory over Cal Baptist Wednesday at CBU Events Center.
The Bears (4-2) held Cal Baptist (3-2) 14 points below its season scoring average. The Lancers entered with a 44.7 shooting percentage, including 32.2% from 3-point range. UNC held Cal Baptist to 25 of its 65 field-goal attempts, including 3 of 22 from behind the arc.
Langston Reynolds paced the Bears with 18 points, while Brock Wisne netted 16. Isaiah Hawthorne registered his second-consecutive double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bears scored 16 consecutive points, as part of a 24-9 spurt over the final 12 minutes of the first half and carried a 40-28 advantage into the intermission. They extended the gap to 19 at 65-46 on a step-back jumper by Marcell McCreary with 11:35 remaining.
Aided by an 8-0 spurt, Cal Baptist sliced the deficit to nine with 1:53 left. Hawthorne sandwiched a layup and two free throws around a Lancers bucket for the final margin.
Jaron Rillie tallied nine points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals. Zach Bloch totaled six points, four assists and four rebounds. Quinn Denker netted nine points, while McCreary inked six points and eight rebounds.
