GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado returns to the hardwood this weekend with a pair of Big Sky Conference matchups at Idaho State and Weber State. The Bears and Bangles tip off Thursday at 7 p.m., and the Bears and Wildcats are set for Saturday at noon.

UNC and ISU

This is the 38th time UNC and ISU will meet on the hardwood. ISU leads the all-time series 22-15. UNC is 7-11 all-time in Pocatello and 6-8 all-time in Greeley. The Bengals are 7-3 over the past 10 games. UNC's longest winning streak in the series was five games between 2018 and 2019.

Last time out vs. ISU (2/27/23 - Pocatello, Idaho)

UNC defeated ISU 53-46. Delaynie Byrne and Hannah Simental each scored 10 points. Byrne also finished with a game-high 13 rebounds and tallied three blocks. Simental went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, both shots were three-pointers. Simental was also 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

UNC and Weber State

This is the 33rd meeting between UNC and WSU. The Bears lead the all-time series 24-8 and have won eight games in a row. A win on Saturday would tie the nine-game winning UNC had between 2010 and 2014. The Bears are 10-5 all-time in Ogden and 13-2 all-time in Greeley.

Last time out vs. Idaho (3/4/2023, Boise, Idaho)

UNC defeated WSU 63-52 in the first round of the Big Sky tournament in Boise. Delaynie Byrne scored 29 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, including 13-for-14 from the free-throw line. Hannah Simental added 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor.

Big Sky Standings

As the Big Sky portion of the season approaches the midseason mark, the Bears are 4-3. ISU is 5-3 in conference play, while WSU is 3-5. A pair of victories this weekend would put the Bears in a great position in the second half of the conference slate.

Balanced basketball

The Bears are playing balanced basketball. UNC averages 67.9 points per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. The Bears allow an average of 62.9 points per game, which ranks fifth in the league.

From beyond the arc

The Bears are the top three-point shooting team in the conference and connecting on 38.8 percent (132-for-340) of their attempts. Simental is second in the conference with a 44.0 three-point percentage (48-for-109). Byrne is fourth in the conference with a 40.2 percentage (37-for-92).

Simental Earns Big Sky Conference Player of the Week

In Big Sky – Summit League challenge games versus Oral Roberts and Denver, Simental averaged 25 points per game, shooting 50 percent from the field and 7-for-16 from the three-point arc. The senior also logged five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Simental hit the game-winning three-pointer to send the Bears past Denver with two seconds remaining.
