BROOKINGS, S.D. – Northern Colorado (8-3, 1-2 Big 12) suffered a setback against South Dakota State (7-2, 1-0) Friday at Frost Arena.

No. 5 Stevo Poulin posted a major decision victory, pushing the Bears ahead 4-0. He jumped out to a 7-2 after one round, with a pair of takedowns and an escape after surrendering a reversal. In the middle frame, Poulin extended his lead to eight with a takedown before giving one back. He picked up the 14-6 victory with a takedown and riding time bonus, despite allowing a reversal.

No. 18 Dominick Serrano extended the Bears' advantage with a 6-2 triumph. Scoreless after one round, Serrano chose the down position and netted the first two points with a reversal. He allowed an escape and went to the final period up 2-1. An escape from his opponent evened the match but Serrano earned the decision with takedown and the bonus for riding time.

Following three matches in succession, Derek Matthews faced off against a ranked foe at 165 pounds. Trailing 3-2 after picking up points with a reversal, Matthews put his opponent in danger and earned a pinfall one minute into the bout, closing the team tally to one.

In the final contest of the event, Xavier Doolin knocked off a ranked opponent for the Jackrabbits. He vaulted out to a 10-0 advantage after one frame. Following his initial takedown, Doolin worked his opponent on his back and picked up a four-point near fall on two separate occasions.
