Van Haaren Wins Long Jump; Egbuchilem Paces 400m

GREELEY, Colo. -- Freshman Kiana VanHaaren has become the newest Northern Colorado Big Sky Champion, as she took first place in the women's long jump at the 2023 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Van Haaren won the event by 5 centimeters with a jump of 5.89m. In the men's 400m prelims, freshman Raphael Egbuchilem finished first with a time of 46.97.

Egbuchilem also took second in the 200m prelims with a time of 20.92, as he advances to the finals in both of his events.

August Van de Weijer also excelled in the 200m and 400m prelims, taking third in the 400m with a time of 47.64 and sixth in the 200m with a time of 21.17. Van de Weijer will compete along side Egbuchilem in the finals for the 200m and 400m races tomorrow.

In the men's 800m prelims, Jesse Hayward finished third with a time of 1:54.22.

Moise Bennet advanced to the finals in the 110m hurdle prelims, taking sixth in the prelims with a time of 14.33.

Jacob McDonough was the other finals qualifier for the UNC men, placing fourth in the 400m hurdle prelims.

On the women's side, Craiesha Johnson also took fourth in the 400m hurdle prelims with a time of 62.80.

Wendira Moss advanced to the finals in both of her events, the 200m and 400m prelims.

Regina Mpigachai placed fourth in the 800m prelims with a time of 2:15.37 to advance to the finals.

The Big Sky championships conclude tomorrow, Saturday, May 13. Field events kick-off at 9:30 a.m. (MT) with the women's hammer throw. Track events start at 2 p.m. with the women's 4 x 100m relay.
