PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The Northern Colorado track and field team completed competition at the Stanford Invitational, highlighted by performances from Jerome Campbell in the 110-meter hurdles and Regina Mpigachai in her first-ever 10km race on Friday.
"Overall, I think that there are a lot of great things we can take away from Friday as we continue to dive deeper into what we call our regular season," director of track and field Wayne Angel said. "Regina and Jerome were obviously highlighted today in the 10k and 110 hurdles, but we also got to see several other athletes step up and do well. Jerome was spectacular as usual winning a close battle over the Arkansas hurdler in a photo finish. That was a great first start of the outdoor season for Jerome as continues to strive for another Big Sky and All-American title. Regina continues to etch her name in UNC legend and lore as she ran a gutsy, first-ever 10km, breaking the record of UNC Hall of Fame great Judy McCreery; the former All-American and Olympic trials finalist had a time of 34:49 for the 10km set back in 1980. Regina smashed the record with a time of 33:40.33. Once Regina learns how to pace a 10k she will be one tough athlete."
In the 400m, August Van de Weijer and Raphael Egbuchilem took first and second, respectively, in the second section of finals. Van de Weijer finished with atime of 47.52, with Egbuchilem right behind him with a time of 47.84.
