Byrne Scores Career-High 29 Points; Bears Advance in Big Sky Tourney

BOISE, Idaho – Junior Delaynie Byrne scored a career-high 29 points and Northern Colorado defeated Weber State 63-52 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Sky basketball tournament.
Byrne, an Arvada, Colorado native, did damage at the free-throw line and finished 13-for-14 at the charity stripe. The all-conference selection went 7-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Fellow junior Hannah Simental, and all-conference honoree, scored 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field. The Pueblo, Colorado product went 2-for-3 from three-point range and handed out three assists.
Freshman Averee Kleinhans added eight points and grabbed nine rebounds. Kleinhans also delivered a team-high six assists while going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.
As a team, UNC shot 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from the field, while WSU converted 29.6 percent (16-for-54) of its attempts from the floor.
UNC will play No. 1 seed Northern Arizona Sunday at 12 p.m. and it will be broadcast on the ESPN + platform.
