Three Bears Claim Titles at Cougar Clash

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Northern Colorado finished with 11 wrestlers placing at the Cougar Clash – hosted by Southern Illinois Edwardsville Saturday.
Vincent Zerban won his second straight tournament title. Dominick Serrano and Baylor Fernandes won their respective weight classes.
125: Kenny Sailas went 3-2 and collected a fifth-place finish.
133: Dominick Serrano posted a 4-0 record, including a fall and a major decision.
141: Armando Garcia collected an eighth-place finish.
149: Kilian Schultz placed eighth.
157: After receiving a bye in the first round, Vincent Zerban backed up his title at the Black Knight Invitational with a first-place finish. He recorded pinfalls in the quarterfinal and championship match, with a major decision in the semifinal.
165: Fernandes went 4-0 to win the weight class, while Derek Matthews worked his way through wrestling backs to place sixth. Fernandes claimed two pinfalls, a major decision and a sudden victory – in the semifinal. Matthews fell in his first match before winning three straight, finishing 3-2 overall.
174: Aydin Rix-McElhinney posted a 2-2 mark, inking a fourth-place finish.
184: Branson Britten placed eighth.
197: Franklin Cruz finished in eighth place.
285: Remington Peterson netted two pinfalls on his way to a sixth-place finish.
