Late Interception Seals First Win of the Season

Tywonne Harris's interception inside the final minute secured the win for Northern Colorado against Lamar
BEAUMONT, Texas – It came down to the wire, but Northern Colorado football is leaving Texas with a win. Tywonne Harris picked off Nick Yockey to seal the 21-14 victory Saturday night.
Harris's interception came with 15 seconds on the clock and Lamar at the UNC 20-yard line looking to force overtime.
Northern Colorado's defense played a huge factor in the game forcing three Lamar turnovers. The first started the scoring for the Bears as Keyvon Lakes recorded a stripe sack and RJ Potts rumbled 46-yards to the endzone.
The Bears entered the half up 14-7 as David Afari put the team on his back accounting for 31 yards on the ground on a 12-play, 71-yard drive midway through the second quarter.
Northern Colorado's offense found some holes in the Lamar defense in the second half as Jacob Sirmon and Trevis Graham connected for passes of 43 and 40 yards. The 40-yard reception ended in a touchdown to put UNC up 21-7.
Lamar cut the lead to 21-14 with 9:22 remaining and was on the drive to tie it until Harris sealed the game with the pick.

- RJ Potts fumble return touchdown was the first of his career.
- Vincent King recorded his first career interception in the game. King added in seven tackles and a pass break up as well.
- Elijah Anderson-Taylor led the Bears with a career-best 14 tackles. He had one tackle for a loss and forced a fumble for the second straight game.
- Elias Rantissi was flying around the field as well recording 11 tackles for the team.
- Trevis Graham led Northern Colorado in receiving with five receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown.
- The win was UNC's first ever over Lamar.
