GREELEY, Colo.—Adding 11 non-conference contests to the calendar, UNC Head Women's Basketball Coach Kristen Mattio announced the team's finalized 2022-23 schedule today. With the announcement, the Bears 15-game season ticket packages are now on sale.
In total, the Bears will play opponents from six different NCAA DI conferences, including four teams from the Summit League. Five of the non-conference games will be played at home and six on the road. Two future UNC opponents qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year with Kansas State advancing to the Second Round and South Dakota moving all the way to the 'Sweet 16'.
Following an exhibition at home against Chadron State on Nov. 4. the Bears officially open the season on Nov. 7 by hosting Northern New Mexico. A quick trip to the University of Denver on Nov. 11 will be followed by two road contests in Texas with UTRGV (Nov. 15) and Incarnate Word (Nov. 17) on the docket.
In late November two local foes make an appearance in Greeley with Adams State and Colorado State traveling to face the Bears.
Closing out the home portion of the non-conference schedule will be Summit League teams South Dakota and Omaha. Coming off a 'Sweet 16' appearance last season, South Dakota plays at the Bank of Colorado Arena on Dec. 2.
The Bears return to the road for the final two contests before Big Sky play begins. The Bears are set to face Big XII and NCAA Tournament representative Kansas State University on Dec. 18 and Samford on Dec. 21.
After defeating Samford at home last season, UNC will make the return trip and travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face the Bulldogs for the most distant away match of the year.
The Bears went 15-16 overall last season and registered a pair of dominating postseason wins to advance to the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament. As the No. 8 seed in the Big Sky Tournament a year ago, UNC dispatched Eastern Washington, 64-45, in the opening round and went on to topple No. 1-seeded Idaho State, 72-54, in the quarterfinals.
"With four rematches from a year ago mixed with teams that UNC has never played before, we are excited to announce our non-conference schedule for this upcoming season," Mattio said. "With NCAA Tournament teams like Kansas State and South Dakota, as well as several others that played in postseason tournaments, we have put together a challenging list that will not only prepare us for Big Sky play, but to help us reach our own goals of deeper postseason runs."
UNC women's basketball tickets start at just $60 for adults, $40 for youth as members of Klawz' Cub Club and $150 for a family four pack (two adult, two youth) and are available via the UNC Athletics app, online at UNCBears.com/tickets or by calling (970) 351-4849 or visiting the Ticket Office in Campus Commons from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
