Cromer's perfect day not enough to get by Bison

FARGO, N.D. – Three RBI from Hayden Heinze and a perfect 4-4 night from Chase Cromer weren't quite enough for Northern Colorado to fend off North Dakota State as the Bears fell, 7-4.
After a quiet top half of the first inning, the Bison tried to get on the board swiftly in the bottom end. However, starting pitcher Ian Torpey had other ideas.
The sophomore from San Jose, California stranded a runner at third to get his team back to the plate, a theme the right-hander would keep going all afternoon long.
Offensively, UNC seemed to prefer the even innings.
A Josh Glenn single and Chase Cromer double set up Hayden Heinze with a perfect opportunity to get the Bears on the board in the second inning. His triple emptied the bases and gave him his first multi-RBI game of the season.
The Fort Collins native was back in action in the bottom of the fourth inning. Though only a single this time around, Heinze's base-knock allowed Cade Moeller to score and restored the two-run advantage after NDSU had posted a run in the second frame.
North Dakota State responded once again with a run in the fourth but Torpey was able to claw through a bases-loaded jam to keep the lead intact.
Torpey went 5.1 solid innings, relying mostly on his defense. Together, the Bears allowed just three hits throughout his outing.
Nobody had a better day than Chase Cromer. The speedy Texan went a perfect 4-4 at the dish with two runs scored.
Two runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh pivoted the momentum back to the home side, though.
There would be no rally on Friday evening as NDSU closed out the win, 7-4.
